About Kate Hunter
Kate earned her Juris Doctorate at the University of Windsor, where she discovered her passion for litigation. Kate was actively involved in mooting through her time at law school, including participating in the Walker Health Law Moot (Semi Finalist), the Zuber Moot (Finalist and awarded Best Oralist), and the Gale Cup Moot. In her final year, Kate and her teammate were the winners of the Arnup Cup, a trial advocacy competition competing against all law schools in Ontario. They then competed in the Sopinka Cup, the national trial advocacy competition in Ottawa, where they came in 2nd place nationally and Kate was awarded “Best Overall Advocate” by a panel of jurists from the American College of Trial Lawyers. Kate knew after these experiences that her place was advocating for her clients in the courtroom.
During her time at Windsor Law, Kate demonstrated strong social justice interests and volunteered as a Senior Case Worker with Windsor’s Community Legal Aid. In this role, she appeared and argued in front of the Landlord Tenant Board. She also completed an externship at the HIV Legal Network in Toronto, where she worked at the intersection of health law and shaping health policy. In both these positions, Kate enjoyed engaging in a combination of client-focused advocacy with proactive policy making.
Kate Hunter began her career at McLeish Orlando as a summer student in 2023. Kate was drawn to the firm for its fierce commitment to trial advocacy and client-centered approach. She returned for her articles in 2024, before being hired as an Associate in August 2025.
