About McLeish Orlando Personal Injury Lawyers
Our Story
McLeish Orlando was founded by John McLeish and Dale Orlando in 1999 out of a passion for excellence and a determination to establish a premiere personal injury law firm in Ontario. The two first began working together in 1994 when John was already a prominent personal injury lawyer and Dale was an articling student. They became fast friends and realized they had the same passion for the law and the unrelenting drive to work hard for their clients.
From the beginning, John and Dale worked tirelessly and did whatever it took to achieve successful results for their clients. If this meant spending thousands of dollars upfront on expert reports out of their own pockets, that’s what they did. They embraced technology and became one of the first paperless firms in Canada. This allowed every member of the firm to be able to access their client’s file at any time, from any place.
John and Dale were soon joined by Patrick Brown, who was an established litigator that shared their views of hard work and excellence. The three emersed themselves in the personal injury bar. They wrote articles and textbooks, and gave lectures in order to share their expertise with others. They became members of the Canadian Bar Association, the Advocates’ Society, and the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association. All three are recognized as Certified Specialists in Civil Litigation by the Law Society of Ontario.
John, Dale and Patrick have each served as President of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association (OTLA). In the year 2000, the OTLA established the John A. McLeish Award which is awarded to a person, association or group which has made an outstanding contribution to the goals of a fair trial and access to justice, as an advocate, in legal scholarship, continuing legal education, legal writing, journalism, politics or government.
The firm has continued to grow and attract dependable, high-quality lawyers and staff that are committed to being strong advocates in the courtroom. One thing that has stayed constant over the years is the focus on teamwork. At McLeish Orlando, we believe that in order to do your best work, you need to be supported by the people you work with and feel comfortable sharing ideas. Our focus on teamwork extends to you as our client. We will be in regular contact with you to provide updates on the progress of your case and to answer any questions you might have.
Our dedication to our clients and our continued involvement in shaping the landscape of personal injury law in Canada is one of the reasons McLeish Orlando has consistently been ranked as one of the Top Ten Personal Injury Boutique law firms by Canadian Lawyer Magazine. The Globe and Mail also named McLeish Orlando as one of Canada’s Best Law Firms for 2022. Our reputation as one of the top law firms in Canada has been cemented through years of hard work and top-quality advocacy.
McLeish Orlando lawyers are often recommended by others in the industry. 5 Reasons to Have our Personal Injury Lawyers Fighting for you.
1. Experienced Trial Lawyers
Our personal injury lawyers are known and respected for their outstanding advocacy skills and willingness to take cases to trial.
We begin preparing each case as if it is going to trial from day one and are constantly looking several steps ahead. This approach ensures that your case will proceed in an organized and timely manner.
McLeish Orlando’s reputation as skilled trial lawyers is well known by insurance companies and other members of the legal community. Although we are most often able to resolve cases before a trial is ever needed, when necessary, our personal injury lawyers are more than willing and able to prepare and present your case to a judge and jury.
2. Team Approach
When you become a client of McLeish Orlando, you become a client of the entire firm, not just one lawyer. Our team of experienced personal injury lawyers, law clerks, legal assistants, law students, and support staff will all be working to ensure you receive the best legal representation available. While all members of the firm are available to assist you, every client that we accept is assigned to an individualized team comprised of a:
- Partner
- Associate Lawyer
- Law Clerk
- Legal Assistant
The members of your team will be in regular contact with you, making sure you are up to date with every step of the process. They are always available to answer questions and provide you with any assistance required.
3. We Are More than Lawyers
While advocating on your behalf in respect to your legal issues is a large part of our involvement in your case, the most important part of any case is your health and wellbeing. Through decades of experience, our team has developed relationships with the best medical, rehabilitative, and support professionals available in Canada. We will work with you to come up with an individualized treatment plan that addresses your needs and accommodates your location and schedule.
At McLeish Orlando, we also work with communities across Ontario to promote safe practices in order to prevent future injuries. Our personal injury lawyers submit proposals to the Government of Ontario, advocating for laws that will make roads safer. Our firm also hosts bicycle helmet giveaways and participates in fundraisers to build safe streets.
4. Quality Representation Over Quantity
One of our philosophies at McLeish Orlando is to limit the size of our practice to the most serious of injuries allowing us to provide top quality service to a smaller number of clients. We listen to every potential client that contacts our office and thoroughly consider their case.
Ultimately, we are selective in the clients we accept, and only take on clients that have suffered serious personal injuries. By limiting our number of clients, we are able to dedicate the time and resources to your case that it deserves.
5. We Get Paid When You Do
We enter into contingency fee retainer agreements with every client we take on.
This means that you do not pay us anything until your claim is successfully resolved. You will not have to pay legal fees out of pocket. We will come to an agreement on the percentage of damages that you will be charged at the outset of your case. Once your case is successfully resolved, you will receive your funds minus our agreed upon percentage of damages for our fee. Contingency fee agreements allow you to retain the most experienced and highly regarded personal injury lawyers without regard to your ability to pay hourly rates or finance disbursements.
