McLeish Orlando Lawyers, LLP, is proud to partner with Spinal Cord Injury Ontario (SCIO) a leading advocate and support organization for people with spinal cord injuries, to the launch the Independence Initiative. This innovative program, created in partnership with sponsors, rehabilitation hospitals, philanthropists and entrepreneurs with lived spinal cord injury experience, aims to ease the transition from hospital to home and promote independence and quality of life for individuals with new spinal cord injuries across seven of Ontario’s rehabilitation centres.
Recognizing the immense challenges that come with spinal cord injuries, from financial burdens that medical equipment and assistive devices place on families, compounded by the physical, mental, and emotional demands of the injury, the Independence Initiative aims to ensure greater success in transitioning people from hospital to home through delivering an SCIO Care package. Beginning in January 2024, SCIO will distribute a care package to each individual in the regional rehabilitation centres across the province. The package will consist of a wheelchair-backpack and a number of accessibility aids and products designed and produced by members of the spinal cord injury community.
