Monday, April 23 is World Book Day. 750 million people in the world cannot read or write. Approximately 25% of North Americans have not read a book in the last year.
The good news is that world literacy is climbing at about 5% every decade.
To help support literacy, McLeish Orlando is making donations to the Toronto Public Library, The Word on the Street, and Metro Toronto Movement for Literacy.
“The Word on the Street is a non-profit organization that celebrates Canadian reading, writing, and champions literacy primarily through a free, annual outdoor festival. Each September, in communities coast-to-coast, we invite everyone to participate in hundreds of author events, presentations, and workshops, and to browse a marketplace that boasts the best selection of Canadian books and magazines.” (The Word on the Street)
“Metro Toronto Movement for Literacy is a network of organizations and individuals who support adult literacy in Toronto and York Region” (mtml.ca).
