David Virgoe Honoured with Medal of Bravery

Debbie Virgoe helps launch a campaign on Sept. 11, 2008, that uses signage on trucks in Ontario to urge motorists to report aggressive driving.

Last year, we posted a story about the conviction of a street racer in the death of David Virgoe.  We are proud to announce that Mr. Virgoe has been recognized for his heroism with the Governor General’s Medal of Bravery.  The Toronto Star has a complete report on the ceremony, and the portion of the story relating to Mr. Virgoe is below:

David Glenn Virgoe,
Angus, Ont.

On June 18, 2007, David Virgoe lost his life when he swerved to avoid oncoming traffic after his tractor-trailer was hit by a street racer on Highway 400 near West Gwillenbury, Ont. The impact made his rig hit another car. It spun through a guardrail into the centre median. As Virgoe strove for control, his truck skidded across three lanes, rolled down an embankment and tipped, killing him. His selfless actions saved others from injury or death on the busy 400.
